7 Beauty Tips to Try This Spring

Spring is just around the corner, can you feel it? Even if there’s still snow on the ground, there’s a slight change in the air and the trees are starting to look a little more green. With spring approaching, what does this mean for your beauty routine? Try these 7 tips this season to stay glowing all the way until summer!

1. Spring Clean Your Makeup

With winter coming to a close, what’s still left on your vanity that’s ready to be swapped out? If the products are adding up, don’t sweat it! Spring is the perfect time to clean both your home and your beauty routine. Depending on the product, there is a different shelf life for everything. Makeup can typically last anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, so how do you know when it’s time to replace it? Here’s the suggested timeline for common makeup items:

  • Mascara: 3 months
  • Foundation: 6 months – 1 year
  • Lipstick: 1 year
  • Blush: 2 years

Be sure to keep an eye out for the telltale signs that products are starting to go, like if the consistency or odor has changed. If you have to question it, it’s probably time for a replacement! 2. Try a Facial Spray to Help Prevent Maskne

It’s almost that time of the year again when we’re sweating and wearing masks. So, what did we learn from last summer? Keep those pores clean! We suggest implementing a facial spray into your routine, even when you go out. If you’re starting to feel sweat build up under your mask, take a break, find a private and socially distant space, and spray your face. We suggest using a clean cotton round or small towel to apply, and make sure to pat gently. Follow with a moisturizer so your facial spray won’t overly dry your skin!

3. Switch Up Your Moisturizer

This may come as a surprise, but not all moisturizers are created the same. The moisturizer you love in winter may not be right for spring as the weather changes! As the humidity starts to roll in, you may want a moisturizer that is a little bit thinner for everyday use. At our student salon, our esthetician students can help recommend springtime-appropriate products, including a new moisturizer! Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

4. Introduce SPF Into Your Routine

We are so glad SPF has become more popular in recent years, because this is a crucial step for protecting your skin from fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and of course, skin cancer. SPF 30 is recommended for daily use, though if you have a light skin tone, you may even want to use SPF 50, while those with deeper skin tones may be safe with SPF 15. While we recommend SPF all year round, as the weather gets warmer and we get closer to the sun, it only gets more important to protect your skin each day!

5. Trim Those Split Ends

If your hair got a little wild this winter, or frantically stuffed into hats and coats, your ends are probably ready for a good trim. Factors like static and dry air make your hair more susceptible to breakage, so springtime is the perfect time to start fresh! Our cosmetology students can help you let go of those dry ends and step forward into spring with shiny, healthy hair. Contact us to make an appointment!

6. Invest in a Heat Protectant

Now that it’s time to let your hair down (literally out of those knit hats!) and start styling again, we can’t recommend a good heat protectant enough. Heat protectants work by adding a barrier between your hair and your tools, which then seals in moisture and helps smooth the cuticle of your hair so it feels extra soft. Even if you’re only blow drying, or air drying and styling after, a heat protectant will help prolong the life of your ends so you can keep your length for a little longer!

7. Accessorize

This is definitely a year-round suggestion, but it’s always a good one! We have seen the return of so many fun, 90s-inspired fashions. Which one is your favorite? Personally we are loving:

  • Stacked necklaces
  • Choker necklaces
  • Statement barrettes
  • Charm bracelets
  • Bold quarter socks
