Get Dolled Up This Mother’s Day: 5 Beautiful Hairstyles

Mom doing daughter's hair

When you look back and think about memories with your mom this Mother’s Day, you can probably remember her doing your hair. Maybe she wanted to get you all dolled up with intricate braids and curls and you would not have any of it. Or maybe you loved it when she helped you blow dry and comb your hair. Many people can remember their mom taking them to the salon the night before school pictures for a last-minute haircut.

While dads definitely help their kids with their hair too, moms have a special role when it comes to doing hair. Even if you didn’t particularly love it when your mom did your hair, you can still make those memories with your own kids whether now or in the future. If you don’t have kids, chances are you’ve got a little cousin or niece whose mom would love it if you played with their hair. We’ve rounded up five easy hairstyles you can try out on the kids in your life (and we promise they will love you for it later even if they don’t right now).

1. Little Ponytails

If you need a quick morning hairstyle for your little one, this inspo from @EasyToddlerHairstyles is it. The last thing a kid needs is hair in her face during recess, and this style will get the job done in a cute and unique way! If you’re in a hurry you can always do fewer ponytails. This is also a great hairstyle for someone growing out her bangs.

2. French Braid Ponytail

This hairstyle looks more complicated than it is, but it’s actually a super quick style perfect for busy mornings! Section off the top half of the hair and start with your typical French braid. Once you get past the top section of hair just tie it off in a ponytail. This hairstyle is perfect for second day curls and looks great on both little girls and older girls!

3. Mermaid Braid

Blonde Mermaid Braid

This is another style that can be cute for both a toddler or an older girl. Mermaid braids are a trendy and sassy way for your princess to show off her style! The look works best with second or third day hair since it requires some texture. If your child has very fine hair you can always use some dry shampoo to add that texture. Starting at the front of her head, put the hair in a small ponytail. Then pull at the ponytail to add that fun volume! Then you’ll add the tail of that ponytail along with the next section of hair into a second ponytail. Pull the hair out for volume, and continue making little ponytails and pulling them loose toward the back of her head. At the end just create one last ponytail and you are all set! Hairspray will help the look stay in place throughout a long day of school.

There are other ways to get this type of look! Here’s a similar video tutorial you can take a look at.

4. Mix and Match Ponytails and Braids

Mix and Match Ponytails and Braids

This hairstyle is a fun and creative combination of ponytails and braids! You can keep adding fun details for as long as your child will sit still. In this style they started with a few ponytails at the top, braided them in pigtail braids, and then finished the tails of the braids with little ponytails in a similar style to the mermaid braid. The best part is, this look would still be super cute even if you left out one or more of those steps!

5. Cute Boys Hairstyle

For all of you boy mamas out there, no, we didn’t forget about you! Boys’ hairstyles might be less time-intensive and intricate but they can still be very trendy and cute. A short on the sides, long on top look is a great way to enjoy his cute baby hair while still keeping it from getting out of control. Plus, after you comb it in the morning it will be all ready to go!
