Tips for Your Fall Hair Care Routine

It’s hard to believe but the end of summer is already here. There’s no denying that this year hasn’t gone how we expected it to go. With so many changes already happening in our lives, adjusting to the colder weather shouldn’t be something else you worry about. That’s why we’ve created a list of easy tips to care for your hair so it stays shiny and healthy as we head into fall. Read our blog to find out how you can create your autumn hair care routine!

Lower Your Shower Temperature

We know this is the last thing you want to think about as the crisp autumn hair starts to hit us but trust us, your hair will thank you for it. Washing your hair in hot weather causes your locks to lose their natural oils that work to keep your hair protected and moisturized. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you have to freeze in the shower! Just turn the water down to a warm or lukewarm temperature and you can expect your hair to be less frizzy and shinier in the fall months to come.

Don’t Go Outside With Wet Hair

When you’re finished taking a shower, take an hour or two to relax in your home and let your hair dry naturally. The last thing you want to do is step outside and expose your wet hair to the cold midwest air. Your hair is at its weakest when it’s wet and combine that with the lower temperature, you’re more likely to suffer from split ends and your hair breaking. If you have somewhere to be, make sure you take the time to at least blowdry your hair. It doesn’t take that long and it will make a big difference for your hair this fall if you commit to this tip.

Drink Plenty of Water

It’s easier to remind ourselves to drink water during the hot summer but that doesn’t mean you don’t need the benefits water gives you year round. Some of those benefits include hydrating your scalp and preventing split ends. As humidity levels start to go down in the midwest, it’s even more important that you’re hydrating both your hair and skin. There’s no better way to do that than by drinking at least 64 ounces each day.

Moisturize your Hair

Drinking water isn’t the only way to make sure your hair stays hydrated and healthy. Why not go directly to the source by deep conditioning your hair a few times each month. After all, there’s no better feeling than when your hair is silky and frizz-free!

Not sure the proper way to deep condition your hair? We lay it all out for you:

  • Shampoo your hair first to get it clean.
  • Apply the conditioner on your ends and work your way to the roots.
  • Leave the conditioner in for around 30 minutes. This could change depending on your hair type.
  • Rinse off the conditioner with cold water.

Get Regular Trims

It’s always a good idea to trim your hair regularly, but it’s even more crucial during the colder months when your hair is more prone to break and have split ends. That’s why you might want to treat yourself more often this fall by going in for hair appointments. This not only keeps your hair healthy but it could even help it grow faster!
