First of all, you can finish up your training hours before the majority of students who wait to start in the fall. Summer classrooms tend to be smaller, which allows you to connect with your classmates and instructors. And finally, you don’t need to give up all your summer fun either. Class schedules are still flexible enough for even full-time students to enjoy the season!

First things first, make sure that you choose the right beauty school for you. You want to attend a school that will set you up for long-term success by providing comprehensive training. Not only do you need to master the essential skills of the program, but you also should learn valuable professional skills.

For instance, all our beauty school students get to practice in the student salon and spa. This allows you to get true hands-on experience and see what it is like to work with clients in a professional environment. This gives our students a meaningful advantage and helps them prepare to pass the state practical exam.

It is also important to double-check your school’s accreditation. You cannot apply for the state licensing exam unless you complete training from a State Board-approved beauty school. Crave Beauty Academy is proud to be the only iTEC approved beauty school. This means that our school meets all state accreditation and is even certified internationally.

How to Prepare for Summer Cosmetology School

If you are enrolling in a summer cosmetology program, then you will be starting a 1500-hour course that covers a wide range of beauty classes. During your training, you will learn:

  2. Experience
  3. Create
  4. Salon Life

You will need various supplies and equipment for all these classes and phases. You may order all the supplies on your own – but student kits are also available for sale through our beauty school for pickup on the first day of class.

Here are some of the essential items that you will need if you create your own student kit:

  • Comb and hairbrush sets
  • Shears and scissors
  • Razors
  • Spray bottles
  • Hair coloring kits (brushes and mixing bowls)
  • Hair clips
  • Curling and flat irons
  • Perming supplies

  • Capes
  • Mirrors

You will also need a mannequin head with varying hairstyles to practice with. Crave Beauty Academy recommends Snap Cap, which is a reusable mannequin with replaceable hair attachments. You must also buy all the textbooks for your classes from the approved list provided by admissions.

Finally, there are some other practical supplies you need to summer cosmetology school. Since you will be on your feet for many hours, we recommend buying comfortable closed-toe shoes. Notebooks, pens, and pencils are handy for studying and taking notes. Finally, be sure to buy a case to hold your student kit, such as a rolling aluminum or plastic container.
